DEVOTION FOR MONDAY, JUNE 16
The Father Came Out to Both
Luke 15:31
"And he said to him, ‘Son, you have always been with me, and all that is mine is yours.’"
The younger son returned home in shame, but the older son stayed home and grew bitter. He followed the rules, did the work, and expected a reward. When the father threw a celebration for the rebellious son, the older brother refused to join in. His frustration was not about the feast — it was about feeling unseen and unloved despite his obedience.
But the father came out to him too. He didn’t shame him for his anger. He didn’t question his years of service. He reminded him of two things: you are always with me, and everything I have is already yours.
This is what many believers miss. They live in God’s house but think like orphans. They keep serving, hoping they will finally feel accepted, all while ignoring the truth that they are already sons and daughters. The older brother had access to everything the father owned, but he was still living as though love had to be earned.
You do not need to strive for what God has already given. The Father’s love is not a reward. It is a reality. Whether you feel far from God or you are quietly serving while feeling unnoticed, His word to you is the same: you are with Him, and all that is His is yours.
Reflection:
Where are you still trying to earn what God has already made available to you? Choose one area today where you will stop striving and instead receive what is already yours in Christ.
Prayer:
"Father, thank You that I don’t have to work for Your approval. Thank You for reminding me that I am with You and that all You have is already mine. Help me stop living like a servant trying to earn love and start living like a child who belongs. Teach me to walk in joy, not obligation. Amen."
